A new partnership between the Society of St Vincent de Paul and the Royal British Legion will create a cross-community welfare group for Armagh.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul and the Royal British Legion have partnered to create a new cross-community welfare group in Armagh.

The project aims to build bridges between the communities by organising joint day trips, afternoon and evening social meetings and Christmas parties for the elderly and children.

A joint committee has been formed, comprising two members from each organisation to maintain closer links with each other.

The group includes Kieron Grimley (chairman), George Robinson (secretary), Nuala Donnelly (treasurer) and Dan Faulkner (public relations officer).

The project has already received a number of generous donations from local associations and organisations.

A spokesperson for the new committee said, "This new umbrella group will in no way conflict with the good work already carried out by the two parent organisations - but aims to complement that work.

"We believe this is the start of something worthwhile in our city and we are sure that all our communities will benefit from it."
