NITB request applications for the Tourism Development Scheme (TDS) which will provide financial assistance to capital projects that can demonstrate that they will increase tourism activity to and within Northern Ireland.

The main objective of the Tourism Development Scheme, which is administered by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, is to assist the improvement of the tourist amenities which Northern Ireland can offer and thereby strengthen the competitive position of the tourism industry and improve its contribution to the Northern Ireland economy

TDS presents a unique opportunity for local businesses to improve their tourism offering and provide a quality visitor experience. The scheme is open to organisations which can demonstrate that they will increase tourism activity to and within Northern Ireland.

Following the success of the 2006-2008 scheme, NITB is urging eligible organisations to take advantage of this new wave of funding. Siobhan McCauley, Director of Product Development at NITB said;

“We were delighted with the calibre of entries for the 2006-2008 scheme. The number and quality of applicants demonstrated the commitment of organisations to develop the tourism industry in Northern Ireland.

Initiatives such as TDS are very important as we believe that improved tourism facilities across Northern Ireland will strengthen the competitive advantage of the industry while also further improving its contribution to the Northern Ireland economy.”

The funding scheme is open to a wide range of organisations across Northern Ireland including private sector companies, public sector bodies and voluntary organisations. Community groups and not-for-profi t bodies, including companies limited by guarantee. Financial assistance up to 50% of eligible project costs.

The NITB Tourism Development Scheme initiative for 2008-2011 provides financial assistance of between £25,000 and £500,000 to tourism capital projects.

The TDS application process comprises two stages and all applications are assessed together as a competitive process within a limited grant budget.
