Let us know if your organisation has any news relating to these themes.
Traditionally, literacy is defined as the ability to use language, read, write, listen and speak. UNESCO has added to its definition that it “involves a continuum of learning to enable an individual to achieve his or her goals, to develop his or her knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in the wider society.”
In modern times, poor literacy is seen as a social problem to be solved through education. The aim of the day is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies, with a particular emphasis this year on health.
