What is social work?

Northern Ireland Social Care Council Small Logo

In February the DHSSPS commissioned the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) to carry out a review of the roles and tasks of social work in Northern Ireland. The Council is now going out to consultation on this important piece of work and this consultation pack sets out how you can become involved in the process.

The intended outcome of this project is to develop a concise statement of the roles and tasks of social work to ensure that it is relevant and fit for purpose, both now and in the future.

This statement needs to take into account what is particularly distinctive about the Northern Ireland context, where social work operates in a uniquely integrated model of Health and Social Services and where it is also practised in the criminal justice, education and voluntary sectors.

Participation in the review consultation is open to both social workers and non social workers.

Please download a pack if you are interested in becoming involved. For more information, visit www.niscc.info or email: rolesandtasks@nisocialcarecouncil.org.uk.
