TV quizmaster Chris Tarrant is supporting Help the Aged with its Helping Unite Generations (HUG) campaign and is asking people across the UK to host a HUG Quiz to raise funds to help isolated older people.
HUG Month is now in its second year and will take place in April 2006.
More than one million older people in the UK go for a whole month without seeing anyone they know. HUG aims to get the nation thinking about those older people who are experiencing loneliness while also raising funds.
QUIZ VENUES
A quiz venue can be anywhere such as your house, the pub, a community centre or work place.
The Botanic Inn and Cafe Vauderville in Belfast, the Moat Inn in Dundonald and Blakes in Derrylin, County Fermanagh are already signed up as HUG Quiz venues.
The HUG Quiz aims to be an intergenerational event. Quiz questions are designed around a generations theme to bring together young and old family members, friends and colleagues.
Chris Tarrant said, "I am delighted to be supporting the HUG Quiz in 2006.... the quiz is easy and fun to do, as Help the Aged provide you with everything you need, right down to handy tips and advice and question and answer sheets. You can host your quiz wherever you like, on any day you like.
The Hug Quiz is one way that you can reach out to lonely older people, showing them that there is someone there who really does care".
SUPPORT THE CAMPAIGN
Other ways to support the campaign include buying a HUG badge or wristband from retailers, or making a donation on HUG Day (7 April) to collectors who will be on high streets across Northern Ireland.
