Contract term: One year contract.
The post-holder will be responsible for working on behalf of the CEP to outreach to local groups to support them to develop their capacity to work with young people Under 25yrs of age and support the use of developmental approaches with young people who are not engaging with existing provision. The post holder will also have responsibility for supporting the development of existing youth provision across the CEP area.
Essential Criteria
- Third level or equivalent qualification in youth, education or social work or other relevant discipline.
- Five year’s practical experience of youth in a paid or unpaid capacity in an inner city and / or peripheral estates environment.
- Experience of youth work in a community based and / or outreach settings.
- Experience of youth development programmes.
- Experience of developing and maintaining networking opportunities for groups.
- Knowledge of statutory sector, youth development groups, and regional youth organisations and available funding opportunities.
- Knowledge of accessing funding support.
- Ability to communicate effectively, at all levels, both orally and in writing.
- Willingness to work outside normal office hours (some evenings and occasional weekends), for which time off in lieu will be given.
Key Tasks
- Co- work with volunteers, staff, management committee members and older young people to practice and develop youth development and peer education models.
- To design and implement programmes identified by the CEP in conjunction with the Coordinator and other members of staff, volunteers and with a range of community and external providers.
- Ensure youth development programmes combine elements of personal development, respect and self esteem, team working, achievement, life transition issues, new opportunities and discussion of the impact of the conflict.
- To work closely with youth groups, clubs and community centres to promote the adoption of youth development approaches in local centres and develop their capacity in relation to:
- supporting developmental approaches with young people
- supporting curriculum development including social and life skills
- promoting good practice in working with young people
- support young people to become aware of community issues, to take leadership and support the development of a youth council and youth providers forum.
- To develop relationships with statutory and resource agencies in the field of youth and support such agencies and local groups to work together in Greater Ballysillan / North Belfast.
- Participate in the Youth Providers Network established with the Youth based CEPs and other providers.
- Work closely with the Coordinator to access and promote the youth development opportunities made available through the CEP and the Youth Network in North Belfast.
