Job Description & Person Specification

Post: Area Fundraising Officer Reporting to: Camphill

Communities Trust (N.I.).Located: Muir Building, 427 Holywood Road, Belfast, BT4 2LT

Hours: 35 hours per week which may include weekend and evening work.

Leave: 20 days per annum plus nominated statutory public holidays.

Contract: Full Time

Salary: Negotiable

Pension: Access to the Trust’s pension scheme with an employer’s contribution of up to 4%per annum.

Role: To develop, implement, coordinate and lead a sustainable fundraising strategy for CCTNI, and generate financial growth within acceptable cost/income ratios and in accordance with the Communities vision, mission and strategic aims.

General Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will be required to:
  • Devise a fundraising strategy, which will help achieve the Communities strategic plans in relation to capital and revenue projects.
  • Build a good understanding of the geographical area and its constituents (general public, corporates, local politicians, decision makers and other key influencers)·
  • Fully research and understand the Camphill Movement, its aims and objectives and the work that Camphill does with children and adults with a learning disability.· Pilot and help evaluate innovative approaches to fundraising.
  • Ensure that a varied range of income sources are secured and developed including companies, trusts, major donors, grants, community groups, legacies, supporters etc. Establish a system of rigorous financial monitoring of all activities so the viability of any project or income stream can be clearly assessed on the basis of Return on Investment (ROI) and other critical success factors·
  • Provide practical support and guidance for community volunteers and community support groups who fundraise for CCTNI.
  • Develop operational projects into funding propositions for a variety of funders.
  • Collaborate with all Camphill Communities in Northern Ireland on direct marketing initiatives to build and develop a sustainable donor base.
  • Establish and sustain appropriate levels of stewardship of new and existing donors to ensure repeat and increased giving.
  • Work closely with individual Camphill Communities to ensure that all fundraising communications are closely aligned to the organisational objectives.· Prepare and submit detailed monthly reports, including the financial position.
  • Adhere to the policies and practices of the Camphill Communities Trust (N.I.) at all times and to respect the policies and practices of project partners.
  • Work alone or as part of a small but effective team.
  • Ensure that contact with others is of a style and quality consistent with the Communities ethos.
  • Undergo training and appraisal as required.
  • From time to time carry out other duties as required by the Trust.


Key Relationships

  • Lead and develop relationships with each Camphill Community in Northern Ireland.
  • Develop relationships with individual communities, nominated community representatives, management council members, trustees and supporters.
  • Maintain regular contact with individual communities, thus ensuring the fundraiser is visible and supportive of individual community projects.

Managing Fundraising Activities and Networking

  • Implement and assist with a regular programme of fundraising appeals.
  • Draft and submit applications for funding, ensuring the criteria is clearly met. Follow up on applications submitted forms a key part of this role.
  • Develop key relationships with existing or potential supporters / donors and maintain regular contact.
  • Identify new potential donors from all sectors.
  • Involve, support and advise volunteers in the work of the fundraising team.
  • Coordinate and maintain contact databases on behalf of the Communities.
  • Ensure that all fundraising activities meet with the requirements and recommendations of regulatory bodies and Institute of Fundraising guidelines.
  • Build awareness of CCTNI through speaking to groups and individuals.

Managing Information

To carry overall responsibility for ensuring that data on donors and supporters or potential supporters is recorded and maintained on the database to the highest level in order to maximise fundraising potential.

Ensure all data is retained in line with the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

Qualifications and Training

  • You will be a member of the Institute of Fundraising either possessing a third level honours education in a business related discipline or significant experience, and a proven income generation record in the fundraising sector.
  • A good knowledge of fundraising databases.
  • Strong IT skills with a good working knowledge of MS Office
  • A full current driving license and access to transport for business purposes, which will enable you to meet the full requirements of the post.

Experience

  • At least two year’s experience of working in fundraising.

Personal Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise and meet deadlines. You will be target driven and results orientated.
  • Effective presentation skills and the ability to converse with a diverse range of people at all levels.
  • Fully committed and enthusiastic, with the ability to lead, advise and motivate community members and supporters.
  • You will be highly motivated with strong networking skills coupled with a persistent and persuasive nature.
  • Essential to this role is a good understanding of the Charity Sector in Northern Ireland, plus knowledge of the Third Sector market.
  • An ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work unsocial hours as required, attending evening and weekend events.
  • A willingness to travel throughout Northern Ireland and beyond.

Desirable:

  • Experience of public speaking.
