The Northern Ireland Association for Mental Health is a registered charity concerned with the promotion of mental health and the provision of mental health services
throughout Northern Ireland.

There is a considerable need in NI for high quality research evidence which will inform policy, foster improvement in mental health services and promote well-being in Northern Ireland.

NIAMH intends to take a key role in driving the recommendations of the Bamford Review through its recently established Research Department. The areas of interest will include tackling stigma and the social exclusion of people with mental health problems and their carers, early interventions for young people, community based services and mental health promotion and education. We also wish to develop systems for robust service evaluation in NIAMH and for other agencies. We are looking for an experienced researcher who will share our goals and commitment.

The Senior Research Officer will deputise for the Head of Department when required and will assist or lead (as appropriate) the development and supervision of research projects in mental health and other health related research.

Essential Criteria will include:

  • Post Graduate Qualification in either health or social sciences.
  • Experience of preparing, analysing and documenting qualitative and quantitative statistical data.
  • Experience of preparation of funding proposals including literature reviews, research timelines and costings.
  • Experience of supervising and mentoring staff.
  • A full and current driving licence and access to a car. Consideration will be given to alternative travelling proposals in respect of applicants with a disability who cannot hold a licence.
