Post: Support Worker

Duration: Fixed Term to June 2009 with possibility of extension

Location: Camphill Community Glencraig - Craigavad

Reports to: The Teachers Group

Accountable to: The Management Council

Introduction and Job Summary:The Camphill Community Glencraig consists of a residential boarding school for children with learning disability and a community for adults with learning disability. The Glencraig Curative School caters for children and young people with severe learning difficulties. The majority of pupils live in this Therapeutic Village setting; there are also a small number of day pupils.

The above position is in the school at Glencraig and is to work with pupils who have challenging behaviour. It is essential that the person applying has experience and training in this field additional training will be given as part of the induction process. The successful applicant must also have an interest in the ethos of Camphill and is willing to engage in staff training and development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting pupils as directed by the teaching staff
  • Setting up activities and various items of apparatus for the pupils
  • Supervision of pupils at break and lunch time
  • Deal with minor First Aid
  • Report and record all accidents and significant events
  • Assist pupils with intimate care needs

Essential Criteria

  • Effective communication skills.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • At least two years experience in a caring and/or educational support field.
  • And at least one of the following or Equivalent Qualifications:
  1. NVQ 3 Early Years Care and Education (NVQ 3 Early Child Care and Education)
  2. Diploma in Child Care and Education (NNEB Certificate in Nursery Nursing NNEB Diploma in Nursery Nursing)
  3. Advanced Diploma in Child Care and Education (NNEB Diploma in Post Qualifying Studies)
  4. BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in Early Years (BTEC Nursery Nursing Certificate/Diploma BTEC National Certificate Caring Services (Nursery Nursing)
  5. BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing).
  6. BTEC Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Early Childhood Studies
  7. Teaching qualification in a nursery, special, primary or post primary school approved by Teacher Training Institute, formerly DENI
  8. BA Early Childhood Studies
  9. NVQ 3/SVQ 3 Teaching/Classroom Assistant
  10. Diploma in Social Work (Certificate in Social Services or CQSW)
  11. BTEC HND in Caring Services (BTEC HND in Caring Services)
  12. AVCE Health and Social Care (GNVQ Advanced Health and Social Care)
  13. SEN/SRN (Registered Nurse)
  14. Certificate in Curative Education and Social Therapy
  15. Learning Disability Award Framework Level 3
