You will have a minimum of 1 - 2 years experience in database marketing, constructing complex queries and reports in SQL and outputting data selections. You will also be an excellent communicator with a flair for interpreting, presenting and explaining detailed statistical analysis to technical and non-technical audiences. Project management skills and attention to detail alongside experience in analysis techniques are essential. The successful candidate will also have an excellent knowledge of MS office, particularly Access; and be able to work to tight deadlines.

Job Title: Fundraising Data Analyst

Location: Belfast – with some travel to other UK and Dublin offices

Job Purpose: To contribute to increasing income raised by the fundraising department by providing data selections and undertaking data analysis

The primary focus of this post is to support Concern Worldwide UK but a close working relationship, sharing knowledge and expertise with the Fundraising Data Analyst, based in Dublin is required to maximise results.

Salary: £24,500 upwards depending on experience

Key working relationships: UK Head of Fundraising, UK Individual Giving Team, UK Fundraising, Development Team, UK Head of Finance, Fundraising Systems Team, UK Supporter Services, Fundraising Data Analyst (based in Dublin), International Head of Individual Giving
External: Direct Marketing Agencies, Data agencies

Key tasks and responsibilities:

Data segmentation and Targeting

  • Produce data selections for fundraisers using complex criteria on Concern’s supporter database for a wide range of fundraising activities. These will include appeal mailings, retention mailings, community event mailings, telemarketing, email and advocacy campaigns.
  • Be a key point of contact and manage the relationship with data agencies where data selections have been outsourced.
  • Work with fundraisers and external data agencies to monitor and review segmentation and targeting criteria.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Produce a range of regular weekly, monthly and other ad hoc reports to inform the fundraising programme. This would include numbers of active and lapsed supporters, average gift values, attrition rates, comparisons between recruitment channels, numbers and income values of different donor types, supporter life time values.
  • Work with fundraising managers to identify and provide them with Key Performance Indicator reports .
  • Provide agreed data and analysis to help fundraising managers draft/review annual budgets.
  • Identify trends, flag up issues and make recommendations to fundraising managers.

Training and Communications

  • Communicate analysis and reports in an easy to understand, user friendly way. This will include verbally, in writing, using graphs and tables.
  • Train fundraising staff so that they can produce their own, less complex reports.

Collaborative working

  • Work closely with the Data Analyst in Republic of Ireland, the fundraising team, the fundraising systems team and external data suppliers to learn and share knowledge.
  • Be a key point of contact on Concern UK’s supporter database for direct marketing and data agencies.
  • Undertake other tasks as may be required from time to time.
  • Some travel will be required to our other UK offices - London, Belfast, Glasgow and to Dublin.


Essential key skills and experience:

  1. Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in database marketing, constructing complex queries and reports in an SQL environment.
  2. Proficient in the MS Office suite, including Excel, Word, and particularly MS Access and VBA.
  3. Strong technical knowledge and experience in analysis techniques. Must be able to generate complex statistical information and interpret results appropriately.
  4. Excellent communications skills with proven ability to explain technical issues to non specialists.
  5. Flair for interpreting and presenting complex or detailed information in a user friendly, easily accessible way.
  6. Proven track record in project management.
  7. Attention to detail with high standards on accuracy of work.
  8. Self starter, with proven ability to manage own workload, under minimal supervision.
  9. Flexible and adaptable approach to work and ability to work under pressure.

Desirable key skills and experience:

  1. Qualification in computing or statistics.
  2. Have a good understanding of, and commitment to, data analysis for a charity.
  3. Interest in development issues and the work of Concern.
