Over 60 community and older people’s groups from across Northern Ireland have been taking part in Actively Ageing Well and learning a range of new skills and activities. These are as diverse as spinning, salsa dancing, ballroom dancing, walking, boccia, aerobics and swimming.
A new website (www.angelsofhope.org.uk), was recently launched to be used as a knowledge base, forum and a means of making a donation toward the research into ovarian cancer. The launch introduced the site to the many professionals who deal with ovarian cancer patients and was attended by friends, family, Dr S. P. Dobbs from Belfast City Hospital and many of the nursing staff.
To coincide with World Mental Health Day, Northern Ireland charity Aware Defeat Depression recently launched its lo-call helpline. The helpline is the only one of its kind in Northern Ireland and is dedicated to supporting people with depressive illnesses, their families and carers.
The opening hours of the helpline is Monday – Friday from 10am – 4pm and the telephone number is 08451 202961.
On 20 March 2006, members of the Environmental Policy Forum literally did go on a field trip, to John Gilliland’s Brook Hall Estate in Londonderry. There, they learned about the growing and harvesting of sustainable willow crops, and how this is then used in heating systems.

Translink and Shopmobility have launched of a new partnership , offering wheelchairs, motorised scooters and electric wheelchairs for free daily hire from the Europa Buscentre and Great Victoria Street Rail Centre.
