The Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) is currently consulting on a revised grant scheme for the Historic Buildings grant aid scheme.

This consultation will take eight weeks from Monday 25 February 2008 and will end on Friday 18 April 2008.

The Built Heritage Unit, as part of the Environment and Heritage Service an agency within the Department of the Environment is responsible for the protection of built heritage. Amendments are proposed to the current grant-aid policy and comments are invited on these proposals.

Key parts of the proposals are as follows:

  1. The extension of grant aid to most types of listed building
  2. The increase in support provided for individual buildings
  3. Grant aid for non governmental bodies and charities wishing to purchase and restore a listed building at risk.

If you would like to find out more and participate in the consultation, please visit the EHS website www.ehsni.gov.uk to download the consultation document. It is hoped to be able to announce a new grant scheme once these views have been taken into account.

In the interim, the existing grant scheme will continue and the existing information on the scheme is up to date.
