International development grants

The Department for International Development's Development Awareness Mini Grant Scheme is aimed at organisations or networks with an interest in development education work .

The fund is designed to support projects from 1-3 years which seek to raise awareness of:

  • International development issues
  • Our global interdependence
  • The need for international development
  • The progress that has been made in international development and that is possible.

The Mini Grant Scheme is open only to applicants based in the north of Ireland and is administered here by the Centre for Global Education. Successful projects will raise awareness of international development issues and generate knowledge and understanding of the Millennium Development Goals (UN targets designed to eradicate poverty).

The deadline for applications to the Fund in 2006-07 is 5pm on Monday, 31 October 2005.

Centre for Global Education

The Centre for Global Education will be disseminating guidelines for the Mini Grants Fund at the end of August and they will also be available from the DFID web site: www.dfid.gov.uk.

The Centre will also be organising two briefing seminars for organisations interested in applying to the fund. Both seminars will be held of the offices of the Centre for Global Education.

Whats is Development Education?

Aim: To provide applicants with an overview of development education practice and some of the key issues, skills, values and understanding which the DFID Mini Grant Fund aims to promote.

The workshop will include:

  • Group work based on development education activities
  • An introduction to key development issues
  • Information on resources and support available from the Centre for Global education

The DFID Mini Grants Fund in Northern Ireland

Aim: to outline the aims of the fund, the type of projects that are supported by the fund and the process involved in compiling an application. The workshop will include examples of successful and unsuccessful projects from previous years which may assist applications in 2006-07.
