The Borough has been allocated a total of £372,474 worth of funding, to be allocated by December 2006 and spent by December 2007.
The funding is generally recognised as the last tranche of significant Peace funding to be allocated to Northern Ireland, by the EU. And given that funding must be spent by the end of 2007, the Partnership will be looking for projects which can achieve quick spend. This programme differs from the previous PEACE II programme as a reduced number of projects will be funded, and there will be an increased emphasis on the peace and reconciliation objectives of the projects.
Catherine Walsh, Acting Project Officer Limavady Area Partnership said
All projects will now have to address ‘Building Good Relations’ in their area, plus at least two other reconciliation strands namely, ‘Acknowledging and dealing with the past, Developing a shared vision of an interdependent and fair society, Significant cultural and attitudinal change and Substantial social and economic and political change.’ There is clearly an increased urgency with this programme for projects to build better relationships within and between communities as well as addressing TSN issues. A further change to previous programme, means that the Partnership will not be able to support training or education based projects”.
The partnership is particularly interested in receiving applications from new applicants and those with a social economy focus. All applicants must submit a Part A via the EU Grants website www.eugrants.org A hard copy of the part B application should be sent to the partnership.
