Promotion of Active European Citizenship

The European Commission has issued a call for proposals to support NGOs and other associations in the promotion of active European Citizenship

EU FlagThis call for proposals supports initiatives conducted by a) Non-governmental organisations and b) Associations and Federations of European interest, participating in European dialogue, on specific themes relating to the objectives of the programme to promote active European citizenship.

Project proposals should relate to one or more of the following thematic areas, with a view to encouraging reflection and discussion on the consolidation of the European Union, and / or promoting and disseminating its values and objectives:

  • To promote and disseminate the values and objectives of the European Union;
  • To bring citizens closer to the European Union and its institutions and to encourage them to engage more frequently with its institutions;
  • To involve citizens closely in reflection and discussion on the construction of the European Union;
  • To stimulate initiatives by the bodies engaged in the promotion of active and participatory citizenship.

NGOs in particular should focus their attention on four other themes:

  • Building on the impact of EU policies on the daily lives of citizens;
  • Promoting the active engagement of citizens in new Member States;
  • Encouraging projects that feature pluralism, tolerance, respect for diversity, and non-discrimination, especially towards disadvantaged groups;
  • Encouraging work that links generations, with the active involvement of young people.
A total of €2.63 million is available, and grants will range from €35,000 to €70,000 to a maximum of 60% of costs.

Projects must start between 1 May 2006 and 31 October 2006, and must end by 30 April 2007.

The deadline for submission of proposals is 30 November 2005.
