This series of seminars aims to provide organisations with information on a wide range of policy issues which impact on the voluntary and community sector in Northern Ireland. The seminars will examine popular concepts that we all know exist, but have never really understood the meaning of. They are aimed at all voluntary and community organisations that have an interest in policy.
More Than Just a Number
Speakers: Paddy Hillyard, Queens University, Paul McGill, NICVA, Alex Tennant, Save the Children
Poverty and social inclusion are key issues for most voluntary and community organisations and it seems like every week we are hearing new statistics about poverty levels and ways of measuring poverty. But finding your way through the maze of poverty statistics to the right one for your organisation and the people you represent can be daunting. This seminar will explain the different definitions of poverty, highlight key terms, explore how poverty is measured and guide us towards the most up to date and relevant stats.
