Friends of the Earth will hold its annual Island Gathering for activists, members and friends on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May 2008 at the Tí Chulainn Cultural Centre in Mullaghbane, nr Newry.

  • A panel discussion, chaired by BBC Radio Ulster’s Séamus McKee, and featuring David Gordon from the Belfast Telegraph and Harry McGee from the Irish Times
  • A presentation and workshop on Transition Towns by Davie Philip from the Cultivate Centre in Dublin
  • An exhibition of the work of Irish News cartoonist Ian Knox
  • A look back on highlights of the last year and a look forward to future campaigns

  • Venture into the outdoors on a hike up Slieve Gullion

Theme

This year we will explore climate change and what we can do to move Northern Ireland and the Republic towards a low carbon future. We will be looking at how we can do this at both government and community level.

  • Hear about how you can get involved in our campaign to introduce climate change legislation to Stormont and the Dáil
  • Learn how you can promote your activism in the local press
  • Get tips on how to organise a public meeting involving your elected representative
  • Find out how you can kick-start a low-carbon revolution in your community

Cost - Residential delegates with overnight accommodation €65 / £50
