An introduction to human rights

This course, back by popular demand for a third year, aims to increase awareness of what human rights are and how they work. It will provide an introduction to human rights and examine the impact of the Human Rights Act, which will be 10 years old on 2 October this year. The course consists of a half-day workshop taking place in Belfast and the North West. The workshop is at an introductory level and intended for staff and volunteers in the community and voluntary sectors. No legal knowledge about human rights is needed.

Content

The workshop will build on participants’ experience, and explore:

  • what rights are
  • what is in the Human Rights Act 1998
  • how rights work when they are in conflict
  • the Human Rights Act 10 years on, and
  • how to deepen your knowledge of human rights.
