Policy training at NICVA

NICVA now facilitates five policy fora, for specific issue and interest groups. The five policy fora are - Women's, Older People's, Environmental, Housing and Voluntary and Community Arts.

Older people's forum

The Forum meets on average four times a year and its aim is 'To enhance the capacity of organisations within and beyond the older people’s sector to make policy responses, coordinate policy information, participate in policy development, and influence decision making.'

Environmental forum

The Forum meets two to three times a year and its aim is 'To encourage greater participation and enhance the capacity of the voluntary and community sector to engage more proactively in environmental policy issues, influence policy development and make policy responses.'

Voluntary and Community Arts forum

The Forum meets two to three times a year and its aim is “To enhance the capacity of the voluntary and community arts sector to make policy responses and participate in policy development, in order to influence decision making and public policy.

Housing policy forum

The Forum meets two to three times a year and the forum’s overall aim is to enhance the capacity of the voluntary and community sector to make policy responses and influence policy development in housing and homelessness.

Women's policy forum

The Forum meets on average four times a year and its aim is ‘To enhance the capacity of the women’s sector to make policy responses and participate in policy development’.

Men's policy forum

The men's policy forum was formed in March 2008, and is chaired jointly by Colin Fowler from the Men's Project and Michael McKenna from Youth Action.The Forum aims to meet four times a year and its aim is 'To encourage greater participation and enhance the capacity of the voluntary and community sector organisations working with men to engage more proactively in policy issues, influence policy development and make policy responses.
