The Equality Coalition is a broad based alliance of groups, committed to the full implementation of the statutory duty to promote equality of opportunity; Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act.
Section 75
Section 75 of the NI Act 1998 requires public authorities carrying out functions that relate to Northern Ireland to have due regard for the need to promote equality of opportunity between:
- persons of different religious belief, political opinion, racial group, age, marital status or sexual orientation
- men and women generally
- persons with a disability and persons without
- persons with dependants and persons without.
Members
The Coalition is made up of representatives from each of the nine equality categories. However, membership is not restricted to Section 75 groups. It is co-convened by the trade union UNISON and the Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ).
