The Family Ties guide, available in hard-copy, was compiled by The Rainbow Project and Cara-Friend, with the support of the young people and parents from Gay & Lesbian Youth Northern Ireland and professionals from organisations working to establish support resources for parents and families of gay, lesbian and bisexual children. This guide forms a small part of a co-ordinated Family Support strategy supported by Cara-Friend and The Rainbow Project, launching in 2008 with the Family Ties peer group for parents.

If you are a parent whose son or daughter has 'come out' to you as lesbian, gay or bisexual, and would like more information or would like to become involved then please contact Steve at Cara-Friend on 028 9089 0202, or Liam at The Rainbow Project on 028 9031 9030.

This booklet has been financed and published in co-operation with the Eastern Health & Social Services Board and the Southern Health & Social Services Board.

About the Authors

The Rainbow Project is a gay and bisexual men’s health organisation that provides: professional counselling by qualified gay counsellors, a listening ear service, support groups, a youth project, training, advocacy, help if you have experienced a homophobic hate crime, and information on issues relevant to gay and bisexual men. Cara-Friend is a voluntary counselling, befriending, information, and social space organisation for the LGBT community. All of the services provided are completely confidential. We offer social support in helping people come to terms with their sexuality - including information on health issues. Our three main services are the Gay Helpline, Lesbian Line and Gay & Lesbian Youth Northern Ireland.
