The Taskforce on Active Citizenship has been established by An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern. It is expected that the Taskforce will report to government around the end of March 2007, ie within nine months of its first meeting. Its broad remit is to provide recommendations on how to ensure the continuation of a healthy civic society in Ireland. The Taskforce is chaired by Mary Davis, Chief Executive of Special Olympics Ireland, and includes twenty members drawn from a broad spectrum of interests and organisations across the voluntary and community, private and public sectors.
