Cinemagic and First Light Movies Call for budding young film makers to enter festival competition.

Have you made a short film? Would you love to see your film screened in the cinema? Cinemagic is looking for imaginative and original films made by young people to be screened as part of the 2007 Cinemagic Young Filmmaker competition in association with First Light Movies, which takes place during the annual film festival in Belfast from 16th November until 2nd December.

As well as international film screenings and special previews, the Cinemagic festival offers masterclasses and workshops in all aspects of filmmaking, and provides a platform for young filmmakers to showcase their talents. Cinemagic Young Filmmaker is searching for films, of any genre, made by budding young filmmakers aged 25 and under from the UK and Ireland. The competition will be split into three different age categories;

  • films made by under 15's,
  • films made by 15-17-year olds and
  • films made by 18 to 25-year olds.

Cinemagic and First Light Movies are dedicated to supporting and encouraging young filmmakers of all ages, background and abilities. Cinemagic Young Filmmaker 2007 is a prestigious competition judged by a panel of experienced film industry professionals and being nominated is an enormous achievement for the young filmmakers.

Cinemagic is delighted to work in partnership again with First Light Movies, to present Young Filmmaker 2007. The competition offers young people across the UK and Ireland an opportunity to submit their films to Cinemagic, and have them judged by a panel of industry professionals.

The shortlisted films in each category will be showcased at the Young Filmmaker event which runs from 23rd-25th November which also includes filmmaking masterclasses that are open to all competition applicants.

It is encouraging to know that there are so many talented young people out there, in the UK, who are passionate about films and, of course, we are eager to help them develop their ideas and stories however we can.

The winning entries in the Cinemagic Young Filmmaker 2007 competition will be screened at the Cinemagic World Screen Festival for Young People in November 2007, on First Light Movies website and both organisations will champion the winning films and enter them into other film competitions throughout the world.

The deadline for entries to the Cinemagic Young Filmmaker 2007 is Friday 2 November. Please send a VHS or DVD copy of your film with a completed entry form by FRIDAY 2ND NOVEMBER 2007. Films should be no longer than 15 minutes. Entries should be sent to:
