The eight week internships will be provided in the US capital by a host of high profile offices, from senators and congressmen on Capitol Hill to government departments, non governmental organisations, PR firms and IT companies, and interns will be accommodated for the duration of their stay by host families in the Washington DC area.
The successful candidates will also avail of teachings on leadership and the challenges faced by some of America's finest leaders, and will see in practical terms the work of local and social leaders on the ground in the city. The dynamic of this group of diverse students will be important at all times. Opportunities will also be available to speak before distinguished audiences at the Northern Ireland Bureau, the Irish Embassy, a special Congressional Forum and other venues.
Through a new element in the program, the interns will also be expected to display their individual abilities and to put their experiences into practice. Following selection and orientation in April, successful candidates will be expected to spend some time with a public service organisation at home before and after the programme. They will then graduate in September.
Applications are welcome from every 18-25 year old student who was born on the island of Ireland and who is presently engaged in third level education.
