Extra chairs were needed at the launch of the Community NI website as almost 150 people packed into NICVA's conference room on 20 April 2005. Well wishers, the curious, even a few sceptics, crowded in to see how Community NI might be useful to them.
Speakers
Bill McCluggage, Head of the eGovernment Unit, told the audience that Community NI passed his website "cup of tea test". He challenged us all to take the test - make a cuppa and if by the time you have finish it, you have found what you were searching for, then consider it a good website.
Cathy Maclean, from Scotland's workwithus.org portal, entertained everyone with her experiences of the highs and lows of developing Scotland's first voluntary sector portal. Celebrate, she said, for today is a milestone, take stock, enjoy, and anticipate the future - the internet is here to stay. She went on to explain that there will be obstacles, but to persevere.
The BBC Big Yellow Bus was another cheery presence on the day. The bus parked outside NICVA's front door for the audience to explore. Emma McLaughlin from the bus team told the audience that the news and events sections of Community NI would be indispensable to the Big Yellow Bus, helping them to determine their route around Northern Ireland and to stayed informed about what's on and what's hot.
