The GSK Impact Awards are open for application with a deadline of 28 September 2007.

Working in partnership with the King's Fund, a leading independent health charity, the GSK IMPACT awards are designed to recognise and promote the existing work of small-to-medium-sized voluntary organisations in the UK, which have made a demonstrable impact on the health of their local communities.

The awards give UK-registered charities the chance to win ten awards of £20,000, with one overall winner receiving an extra £10,000. In addition, ten highly commended organisations receive £5,000. The awards are open to charities that have been working in local community healthcare for at least three years with an annual budget of less than £1 million.

Since the awards began ten years ago, over 105 UK community healthcare charities have been awarded a total of £1.8 million in recognition of their success and achievements dealing with such diverse and difficult social issues as domestic violence, male prostitution and mental health disease.

Last year’s overall winner, Hospice of the Valleys in South Wales, is still enjoying the success and said "Winning this award has been amazing for everyone at the hospice and has given us all a huge boost. So many influential people know we won it, and continue to congratulate us. It has given us improved status with professionals and the recognition we have received has been even more important than the money". Hospice of the Valleys, South Wales, overall winner 2005

Further information about the work of this year's winning organisations is available in the 2007 IMPACT Awards brochure (PDF 1.6Mb).

The 2008 Awards new guidelines for applicants and application form will be available on the Kings Fund website. The deadline for completed applications will be 28 September 2007.
