Help with litter collection needed

It may not be Wimbledon Common, but there's a chance to try some Womble style litter picking moves this Friday by participating in DoYourService's anti litter campaign in Andersonstown.

A small organisation called DoYourService is looking for helpers to join in a litter clean up of the Andersonstown area on Friday 9 April.

Essential litter collecting equipment - those handy litter picker up-ers and gloves – will be provided by Belfast City Council.

Tara Maguire of Children’s BBC, Channel 9 and All or Nothing will be there to lend a hand as well as scouts from Newtownards.

The event is the first that DoYourService is coordinating as part of their anti litter campaign that will culminate in the clean up of six beaches in May.

The overarching aim of the organisation is to assist local community action and to support the development of local groups where community spirit exists.

Those participating in the clean up should assemble at 12.00pm at the West Belfast Partnership Board office on Friday so the group can walk together to the site. The Wombles would be proud.
