Montupet makeover for Ballymacoss House

A team of 16 employees from Montupet rolled up their sleeves, donned overalls and set to work transforming Ballymacoss House in Lisburn recently for The Cedar Foundation.

Volunteers from Montupet carried out a series of ‘Changing Rooms’ challenges as part of their continued commitment to community involvement through membership of Business in the Community.

Behind the scenes

The Cedar Foundation provides innovative services for people with disabilities to fully integrate them in their local community. Ballymacoss House is one of the Foundation’s residential homes that provides housing, care and support for individuals with physical disability and complex needs including brain injury.

Business in the Community helps companies meet their community involvement objectives through the use of employee volunteering, including team and individual opportunities, enabling people to use and expand their skills in a totally new environment.

The challenge

The team’s main challenge was to give three bedrooms and the common room a much needed coat of paint, to brighten the living space for the residents.

Kevin Walsh, who led the team from Montupet commented that the challenge provided, “A great opportunity to do something worthwhile and at the same time succeed at the team challenge of completing the job within the time constraints. This was made possible by every team member’s willingness to give 110%.”

Paula O’Neill, head of accommodation services for The Cedar Foundation said, “We were delighted to welcome the 16 strong team from Montupet to Ballymacoss House for their one day Business in the Community Challenge.

"The residents are very pleased that their rooms are being decorated and they all appreciate the hard work undertaken by the team. We would also like to say a very big thank you to B&Q who kindly donated the paint for the Challenge”.

Paddy Lock, manager of B&Q, Sprucefield added: “When The Cedar Foundation approached us we jumped at the chance to offer assistance to The Ballymacoss Challenge. B&Q’s Better Neighbourhood Grant Scheme gives small grants to local communities so the scheme really suited the Ballymacoss project. We always like to give back something to the community we are in so we are very pleased that we were able to help The Cedar Foundation in Lisburn”.
