Out and About Community Transport, Magherafelt recently became the first community transport company in Northern Ireland to set up a fully fledged social enterprise company.
Out and About Enterprises commenced trading in June 2008 as a private coach hire company providing a luxury coach (31 seater) service to the entire community.
Out and About Enterprises Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mid-Ulster Community Services Limited, specialising in private coach hire for the over 55s, the disabled and senior citizens. However it will also provide, particularly in the early trading years, public coach hire for schools, clubs and other groups.
The board of Out and About Enterprises Ltd consists of local people with extensive knowledge and a wealth of ability and experience in small business, the voluntary and community sector, education and training.
The trading activities of the new company will not take precedence over existing community transport provision but will both complement and enhance what is already provided. The surplus generated from this business will contribute to the running costs of the community transport scheme, thus ensuring that Out and About Community Transport will be sustainable in the long term.
