The Sandy Row / Mid-Donegall Road community were celebrating at the weekend when it was announced that one of it's home grown community activists was named in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Ernie Corbett, Chair of Sandy Row Community Forum, and tireless champion for South Belfast received an MBE For Services to the Community.

Ernie has lived in the Sandy Row / Mid-Donegall Road area all his life and has been involved in community activities within the area for over 45years

On hearing the announcement Ernie said:

"I feel that this is recognition for the Sandy Row/Mid-Donegall Road community and the people who I have volunteered alongside over the years"

The Staff and Management Committee of the Community Forum commented

"Ernie has worked tirelessly for this community since ReDevelopment and the 10 years since the Forum was established. That's a lifetime!

This Honour is a tribute to both Ernie & his family for their contribution to our community over the years. We are so proud!"

The Honour is particulary pertinent given that the Community Forum celebrated it's 10th Anniversary with a Gala Evening at the City Hall in December.
