Oxfam Ireland is delighted to announce that Limerick-born Jim Clarken has become the new Chief Executive of Oxfam Ireland.
Jim has been working at senior management and board level within a broad range of professional and voluntary organisations for over 15 years. Prior to joining Oxfam Ireland, Jim managed a large health and water programme with GOAL in Southern Sudan and most recently has worked as General Manager of the Chernobyl Children’s Project International.
Jim feels he is ready for the challenge of his new role:
“I am really excited to join Oxfam Ireland at such a pivotal time in its development. The organisation has grown dramatically in scale and scope over the past ten years and is now poised to become one of the leading voices in the sector here. With the strength of the Oxfam International confederation behind us, I believe that we can continue to grow our influence throughout the island of Ireland and more importantly our impact on the ground in the developing world. Oxfam works with partners in developing countries to find sustainable solutions to the problems they face and to ensure they have a voice in how decisions affecting their lives are made. Our work in the field is backed up by advocacy and campaigning worldwide. My job is to ensure that we continue to work with poor communities in the most effective and efficient way possible and to ensure that the public have confidence that their donations are making a real difference.”
Jim will be responsible for managing over 120 staff and 1,000 volunteers:
“I would like to pay tribute to all the staff and volunteers of Oxfam Ireland for the many successes to date. I look forward to working with them to lead the organisation into this exciting stage in our development.”
