Speaking ahead of the re-launch Mr Oliver Green, Director of Greater Shantallow Community Arts said:
We have been inundated with local people expressing their disappointment and disgust at the senseless way our original mural was damaged and with residents pleading with us not to be deflected from the idea of bringing the wonderment and beauty of classic art into the heart of local communities such as Galliagh."
Mr Green added:
"The people of this community appreciate and deserve to experience the light that the arts can bring to their lives, and we will not allow a very tiny minority of people, unrepresentative of the good people of Galliagh, to deny our community that positive experience.
"Over the next year we hope to bring to the Gable Wall at Bloomfield a series of classic images and paintings that are meant to cause offence to no one, but moreover to enlighten and inspire people to enjoy and debate the contribution that art in all its forms can bring to each of us individually and collectively to our community."
Mr Green went on to say:
"Greater Shantallow Community Arts is committed to using the medium of Arts as a vital tool in the re-imaging and regeneration of the Galliagh area and ensuring that the potential that the creative industries holds for future employment of our young people is kept firmly in the minds of those in positions of power to influence investment in the future of our community."
In conclusion Mr Green said:
"I would call upon and welcome everyone who would like to show their support for the arts, to come and join with us as we re-launch the Mona Lisa on Monday 29 September at 12 noon at Bloomfield, Galliagh, Derry."
