It aims to celebrate the achievements of learning, promote participation and increase access to information, advice and guidance.
Events and activities will be taking place throughout the week across Northern Ireland. Adults are encouraged to take part in the activities for pleasure, to develop new skills, or to improve their job prospects. Each year adults get a taste of learning across a variety of venues including universities and colleges, libraries and museums, community and adult education centres.
Some events already organised for this year include open days at various learning providers, IT taster sessions, guided walks in Ballycastle, exhibitions in museums and “Bring a Friend” to class week at Belfast Metropolitan College.
Information on Adult Learners’ Week events has been compiled by EGSA and lists the activities and learning opportunities taking place across N Ireland. Their calendar of events will provide you with a guide to what’s on in your area. Log on to EGSA’s website at www.connect2learn.org.uk and click the Adult Learners’ Week link on the homepage to find out more.
Adult Learners’ Week also features 2 other initiatives: Learning at Work Day and Silver Surfers’ Day.
National Learning at Work Day, the biggest annual celebration of workplace learning, will take place on Thursday 22 May 2008 and is co-ordinated by the Campaign for Learning.
Silver Surfers’ Day on Friday 23 May is a national event which focuses on helping the over 50s have a taste of the Internet and gain the essential ICT skills to get started. Visit the Adult Learners’ Week section of EGSA’s website to find out more.
Don’t worry if you can’t find something which appeals during Adult Learners’ Week - if you would like to get into learning you can use EGSA’s online course search at www.connect2learn.org.uk or phone their Learners’ Line on: 0845 602 6632 to find out about opportunities in your area throughout the year.
