Women’s community education provision is a key component of Northern Ireland active and vibrant community learning sector. The report “Women’s Centres Community Based Education” details this vital work and explores the unique features of the education provision provided by 13 women’s centres across Northern Ireland.

The report “Women’s Centre Community Based Education” compiled by the Women’s Support Network on behalf of the Women’s Centres Regional Partnership, will be launched on Wednesday, the 20th February in Stormont.

The report highlights the “unique package” of training and education services provided by 13 women’s centres strategically located within socially and economically disadvantaged areas in Northern Ireland. The women’s centres greatly contribute to the elimination of the current barriers to education and training for women.

By offering childcare and carers provision, personal development, low costs and accessible location in addition to high quality programmes and courses, women’s organisations enhance the quality of life of individual women, and in turn, of their families and their communities.

The report clearly shows the importance of the community based educational provision and calls for more support and discussion with Government Departments to address issues around resources and sustainability.
