The CIVICUS World Assembly - a forum for international civil society representatives to exchange ideas and experiences and to collaborate on strategies for a just society – will take place in Glasgow from 18-21 June.

CIVICUS world assemblyThis eighth World Assembly is the last of a series of three held in Glasgow.

The overall theme is ‘Acting together for a just world’ and this will be explored further through a focus theme of People, Participation and Power.

Whether citizens are engaging national governments directly or working with business and local government for better social development and real change within their communities, this theme will highlight the role of people acting together to gain power.

Among the confirmed speakers are Alex Salmond, First Minister, Scotland; Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, African Women’s Development Fund; Clive Booth, Big Lottery Fund; Douglas Alexander, Secretary of State for International Development, UK; and Pascal Lamy, Director General, World Trade Organisation.

The BBC World Service will be broadcasting live from the venue throughout the Assembly and delegates will be encouraged to participate.

There will also be guided networking sessions and learning exchanges.
