Young people aged between 11 and 25 from across the UK, are being encouraged to seize the opportunity of a lifetime and make a difference to their local community by applying for a Camelot Foundation 4Front Award.

4front awards posterNow in their fourth successive year, the 4Front Awards are comprised of a £3,000 cash grant awarded to individuals or groups who have an idea or initiative that they believe can help to make a change for the better.

The 4Front Awards give young people the chance to enhance their everyday lives and give others the opportunity to share in a unique dream that will last for years to come. Previous winners have uses their grant to fund a day centre in Kenya that offers under-privileged street children a place to wash and eat and a website helping young people with disabilities to get the most out of local tourist attractions.

The Camelot Foundation is an independent grant making trust funded by a £2 million per annum donation from lottery operator, Camelot Group, as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme.

The Foundation focuses on supporting charities across the UK that have innovative ideas for supporting marginalised young people, and for re-connecting them with the mainstream of UK life.

The 4Front Awards are designed to capture the imagination and provoke creativity in young people and applications need to be submitted in the form of a five minute video that outlines the idea and shows how it will benefit the community. The awards are unique in that the criteria and winners are decided by a panel of young people from across the UK. The theme for the 2006 awards is, “Change your World.”

Susan Elizabeth, Director of the Camelot Foundation, said: “The creativity and fun of the 4front Awards starts with the video application. The whole 4Front Awards process is driven by a design team of young people who also decide on the finalists and winners. The results are fantastic ideas which have already translated into great projects that are making a real difference to young people’s lives.”

Successful applicants will be flown to London and winners announced at an awards ceremony in London at Fabric Night Club on 24 October.

The closing date for applications is 18 September, 2006.
