Rural women’s sectoral programme

This programme is funded by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development under EU BSP programme measure 4.6 and the International Fund for Ireland and the programme centres around women’s participation and involvement in rural community development and their under representation at decision making levels within this.

The rural Women’s Sectoral Programme has resulted from a consortium application between six Rural Women’s Networks :

  • South Armagh Rural Women’s Network
  • Fermanagh Women’s Network
  • Mid Ulster Women’s Network
  • Newry & Mourne Women’s Network
  • Omagh Women’s Area Network
  • Roe Valley Women’s Network
  • and the Women’s Research and Development Agency (WRDA) and Rural Community Network (RCN).

Aims of the programme

  • To support all stages of development of rural women’s organisations and promote the active involvement of rural women in Rural Development and wider policy.
  • To support the development of rural women's projects throughout rural NI, and to specifically focus on areas where there is little or no activity.
  • To develop a number of social/economic/environmental projects with, for and by rural women that contributes to the regeneration of local communities
  • To identify the development needs of rural women and through a multi agency approach provide appropriate responses.
  • To ensure that women from all traditions of rural NI are actively engaged in the process and the management of the process

A total of £400,000 investment in the rural women’s sector funded at 75% through DARD via the BSP programme. To ensure equitable distribution across rural Northern Ireland, the maximum grant a group can receive is £7,500. This figure cannot amount to more than 75% of total project costs. Project costs must be a least £10,000.00 to secure the maximum grant of £7,500.00.

Criteria
Projects must benefit rural women with rural women involved in the planning and management of the project. Projects will only be deemed eligible if it meets at least one of the aims of the Women’s Sectoral Programme and the Building Sustainable Prosperity programme. This programme is open to any constituted community group/organisation working with or for rural women. A limit of 10% of funding can be used for wages. Confirmation of additional 25% of funding will be required before a project will receive funding. All projects must be completed by 31st May 2007.

A second call opened on Monday May 8 and closes on Friday 16 June 2006.

Who can apply?
Constituted groups and organisations can apply to the programme - individuals can not apply but can be delivery agents if employed by the community group or organisation applying.
