UNISON Equality Awards

UNISON Community & Voluntary branch wants to give public acknowledgement to the important work undertaken by the voluntary and community sector to improve equality and human rights in our society.

UNISON Community & Voluntary branch has launched a new incentive for promoting equality in the sector and is offering two £500 prizes as 'Equality Awards'. One will be for activities in an urban region, and one for activities in a rural region.

The work may centre on various activities (for example empowering migrant workers, or raising awareness of human rights for residents in a particular area) but should, in a community-based, practical way, encourage or develop the participation of people as equals in our society.

Pauline Kersten, project manager of UNISON's Community & Voluntary Branch, said:

Many of our members are quietly involved in practical community action on equality and/or human rights and we want to give public acknowledgement to this immensely valuable work in the sector.

We are not looking for new projects. but we are focusing on activities or projects that have been carried out between January and December 2007 by community or voluntary organisations.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 29 February, and application forms may be downloaded here, or are available from:
