Fold Housing Association, the winners of this year’s annual charity quiz night run by Housing Rights Service have donated their £614 winnings to local nature conservation charity, the Ulster Wildlife Trust.

With 19 teams participating from different organisations, the winning Fold team triumphed by one point with the question ‘What do you call a stoat in winter?’

While other teams were tempted to answer 'cold', Fold correctly answered 'an ermine', thanks to the wildlife interests of one team member who happened to be a stoat enthusiast and member of the Ulster Wildlife Trust.

Who would have thought that knowing something about a stoat could make a difference to anything?” said Ryan McGill, Housing Officer with Fold. “But £614 is the sort of sum that can make a meaningful contribution to a local charity like the Ulster Wildlife Trust, and the team was happy to help."

The cheque was presented to Kelly Muldoon, Fundraising and Communications Officer with the Ulster Wildlife Trust at its Bog Meadows Nature Reserve, in Belfast.

We are delighted to receive such a generous donation and it’s fantastic that it was a wildlife question that clinched it!” said Kelly. As a local nature conservation charity, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to continue working for a healthy environment for wildlife and people across Northern Ireland.”

She added:“This donation will make a vital contribution to the Trust’s work in managing nature reserves for wildlife, teaching people about nature, campaigning for a healthy environment and supporting community environmental action. So, a big thanks to Fold for helping us stand up for nature!”

Housing Rights Service held their first charity quiz in 2005 to coincide with their 40th anniversary celebration - that quiz was also won by Fold. The next quiz was won by the Department for Social Development and this year Fold have reclaimed their title.

Speaking from Housing Rights Service, charity quiz organiser Diane Callaghan said: “Running the charity quiz is a way for Housing Rights Service to give something extra back to the community we serve. We are delighted to present the Ulster Wildlife Trust with their cheque today and hope they can put the funds to good use."
