Another Arts Council deadline looms

With typical notice the Arts Council opened its Public Arts Programme on 20 November 2006 only to close it again on the 14 December 2006. Other deadlines follow later next year.

The Public Art Programme is designed to support the commissioning of new art for public places throughout Northern Ireland. The Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s policy position is articulated in its Public Art Policy and it, along with practical guidance, advice on best practice and documentation on public art projects which have received support, is reproduced in the publication Public Art Handbook for Northern Ireland. In summary, the Arts Council embraces a wide range of media and art forms as Public Art – painting, sculpture, photography, installation, video and new media, temporary works, crafts and applied arts.

The Public Art Programme is open for applications for permanent single works; multiple linked works (eg a sculpture trail); and integrated art projects. Time-limited (or temporary) projects, although not ruled out, will not be prioritised under this programme; however, applications for such projects would be welcomed through the Awards for All programme

This programme only opened on 20 November 2006 with a first deadline of 14 December 2006 - just a three week window of opportunity. Further deadlines are 3 May 2007 and 27 September 2007.
