Consultation on the National Minimum Wage

CommunityNI.org Small Logo

The Low Pay Commission is preparing a new report for Government on the National Minimum Wage and is inviting evidence on this and on apprentice exemptions.

The Low Pay Commission is keen to hear the views of those who have been affected by the minimum wage. In its last two reports, The Commission restricted recommendations on minimum wage rates to one year only. However, this year it has been asked to make recommendations for changes to the minimum wage in 2009 and 2010. The terms of reference are available on the website.

The deadline for responses on all matters relating to the minimum wage (except apprentice exemptions) is Friday 3 October.

The Commission will have access to a wide range of published information and so would particularly welcome responses which provide information not already in the public domain, which might not otherwise be available. Evidence supporting the specific views being expressed is especially appreciated.

The Commission's policy is to make responses to its consultation exercises publicly available unless respondents request otherwise and it may quote from responses in its reports. If you don't wish any of the information you provide to be made public (including your identity) please state in your response what should be kept confidential.

Consultation on Apprentices

In order to gain a thorough understanding of how the minimum wage apprentice exemptions are working in practice, the Commission would be very interested to hear your views on this, or other issues which you feel might be relevant. The deadline for responses to this part of the consultation exercise is Friday 8 August 2008.

A report will be produced by the end of February 2009.

Please email your responses to Icon of an envelope lpc@lowpay.gov.uk, or send them by post to:
