Despite high level policy statements on equality and social inclusion for minorities, the education experiences and outcomes for Irish Traveller children remain woefully poor.
We seek a committed and persuasive individual with education or social policy expertise to assess, analyse and advocate around current education policy and practice affecting Travellers.
This individual will need to be able to operate comfortably in an environment with Traveller parents, children and support groups, as well as with teachers and policy makers.
A critical output of the project will be the preparation of a comprehensive annual report on the state of Traveller education in Northern Ireland, in the context of children's rights. Amongst other bodies this report will be submitted to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
This project is a partnership between Traveller Movement NI and Save the Children.
