Hours: 37.5 per week

Starting Salary: scale 6, point 30 £22,950 to £24,658 per annum depending on experience and performance.

Responsible to: STEP Coordinator and STEP Communications & Marketing Manager.

Main responsibility:

To maintain and develop existing support network; develop new members and services in relation to inward migration; to be and to keep members and other STEP staff up to date on all activity (regional and local) surrounding Migrant issues through attending meetings/events and hosting meetings, dissemination of information to all STEP employees; to contribute to STEP research and publications and to take day to day responsibility for MWSN (Migrant Worker Support Network).

The post is offered as a three year contract with incremental increase and will be renewable annually on the basis of performance and continued funding for the project


Main duties of post holder MWSN

  1. To promote the MWSN and encourage new members to join.
  2. To work with the Communications and Marketing Officer in the development of a new MWSN website for members.
  3. To liaise with organisations across MWSN developing best practice, sharing ideas and resources.
  4. To disseminate information across the Network, update website, manage e-alerts & member communication (newsletters, reports etc.)
  5. To arrange bi-annual events for MWSN.
  6. To identify ways of sustaining MWSN beyond grant-aid.

Migrant Project Development

  1. To represent STEP at events/meetings regarding Migrant issues as directed.
  2. To deliver training on best practice to other organisations across NI.
  3. To host information and good practice visits to STEP in areas relating to Migrant issues.
  4. To contribute to research and publications centred on Migrant issues.
  5. To keep up to date with issues, legislation and local and regional initiatives affecting Migrant Workers & communicate appropriately with staff at STEP
  6. To work in partnership with the voluntary and community sectors to establish problems and difficulties facing Migrant Workers.
  7. To identify gaps or needs in the provision of STEP Migrant Support Services and suggest initiatives to meet them.
  8. To work as a team member within STEP to integrate the project within the broader STEP programme.

General duties

  1. To attend regular supervision and appraisal with line manager.
  2. To maintain such records as are required for effective monitoring and evaluation.
  3. To produce monthly reports on MWSN activity and work completed.
  4. To contribute to a healthy, safe, equitable, and inclusive working environment.

Essential Criteria

  1. Any third level degree with at least 2 years experience working in networking or development post, preference given to candidates with background in Migrant or BME issues. Or
  2. At least 4 years experience working in networking or development post, preference given to candidates with background in Migrant or BME issues.
  3. With GCSE or equivalent in English.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to communicate with people at all levels.
  5. Sound knowledge of diversity, equal opportunities and Migrant Worker issues
  6. Excellent written communication skills.
  7. Good analytic and planning skills with an ability to manage time and resources and evaluate project activities.
  8. Ability to work as part of a team.
  9. Be able to prioritise a heavy workload and meet deadlines.
  10. The ability to drive/a clean driving licence/access to a car.
  11. (Where a person does not drive, by virtue of disability, evidence of alternative access to appropriate personal transportation is acceptable).
  12. Proficient I.T. skills

Desirable

  1. A second language.
  2. An I.T. qualification.
