The DHSS&PS has commissioned Contact Youth to provide a comprehensive regional 24/7 helpline with services including clinical assessment, counselling, alternative supports and referral service for the entire population of NI to commence in early 2008. To enable the expansion of this vital regional development for suicide prevention we now invite applications for a range of leadership, counselling and support posts.
These posts will work with the most vulnerable young people where there are increased levels of mental health and suicide attempts such as young people identified as LGBT or with issues around their sexuality, young people in the Juvenile Justice System and young people in the Care System. These are exciting posts who will work as a specialist team across NI providing an additional tier of support to these young people most in need of therapeutic services. Successful candidates will be very experienced counsellors with at least four years working in a formal counselling setting having worked with some of these specialist groups and completed extensive additional training. They will have a passionate commitment to the most vulnerable young people and will be willing to work throughout NI.
For all face to face Counselling posts we require evidence of a recognised Counselling Diploma and 150 hrs supervised practice as an essential entry requirement. We also require an interest in, or experience of working with young people in distress, and evidence of a clear understanding of young people’s needs and issues. We value personal qualities of creativity, resilience, an optimistic and enthusiastic attitude, and the capacity to thrive in a challenging environment. Secondment enquiries are welcome.
APPLICATION PROCESS
All applications must be returned by 4.00pm on Friday 15 February 2008.
CVs will not be accepted. Interviews will be held on 25- 28 February and 5&6 March 2008. We welcome multiple applications from counsellors interested in working on a combination of projects or in a variety of posts. Contact Youth Counselling maintains a bank of successful reserve candidates for all our posts to fill emerging vacancies over the ensuing 6 months.
