The key role of this CEP is to strengthen community capacity by improving communications among local groups, developing community services and providing outreach/funding advice for community groups.

The CEP will deliver programmes which include supporting effective community group organization; a community mentoring scheme; cultural history programmes; youth development activities; and programmes to stimulate community involvement.

To maximise the impact of the proposed programmes the CEP will identify a number of statutory, community and voluntary sector partners and service providers to support programme delivery.

Salary:

Scale 4 : £17,352 to £18,430 ( pro rata ) Unqualified
Scale 5 : £ 18,450 to £ 20,736 ( pro rata ) Qualified

Hours: 20 per week : (some outside normal office hours may be required)

Leave: 25 days per annum and 12 statutory days. Time off in lieu may be taken for agreed additional hours worked

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Relevant experience in community development or other relevant discipline which extends to at least one year ( paid or unpaid ) which directly or indirectly includes experience in community development work in an inner city and/or peripheral estates environment.
  • Working knowledge of community capacity and social and economic issues in inner city and/or peripheral estates environment with particular reference to North Belfast
  • Experience of providing information, advice and support to voluntary and community organisations
  • Experience of developing and maintaining networking opportunities
  • Working knowledge of statutory sector, and available funding opportunities to support projects, community and youth groups
  • Competent in the use of MicroSoft Office
  • Ability to communicate effectively, at all levels, both orally and in writing
  • Willingness to work outside normal office hours and work flexibly with the wider Protestant communities and between communities
  • Ability to access transport in performance of duties of the post, which will involve a substantial element of outreach work

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Relevant qualification in community development, education, social sciences or business.
  • Knowledge of the existing community infrastructure within Upper North Belfast
  • Experience in writing funding applications
  • Experience in the facilitation of discussion groups
  • Experience in building cross community relationships and partnerships
  • Some knowledge of issues and opportunities in the social economy
  • Experience of delivering or facilitating formal training.
