Training and Research Officer Post
(£26,000 pro rata, full-time, 9 month fixed term contract)

The post involves editing two issues of a development education journal, organising an annual conference and delivering two training seminars. The deadline for applications is Friday, 8 June.

This post has been established as part of a Centre for Global Education project supported by Irish Aid (the Irish government agency responsible for overseas aid and development education). The main aim of the project is to enhance communication, improve practice and strengthen capacity in the development education sector in the north and south of Ireland.

The Training and Research Officer will have a nine month contract. The main project activities are to

  1. Produce a bi-annual development education journal.
  2. Policy and Practice.
  3. Organise an annual development education conference.
  4. Deliver 2 development education training seminars.

The post involves taking the project through to the conclusion of its current three year funding cycle and supporting the Centre’s application for a renewal of funding for a further three years. The Centre will be submitting a funding application in January 2008 with a view to sustaining the work of the project without an interruption in delivery.

Essential Criteria

  1. A third level degree.
  2. Proven experience in the research and publication of articles.
  3. Experience in the organization and delivery of training seminars.
  4. A comprehensive understanding of development education and knowledge of development networks and organizations in local and international contexts.
  5. Computer skills commensurate with the production of reports and publications.
  6. Good organization and communication skills.
