The Bridge Youth Projects wish to recruit 3 part time youth support workers to work along side existing youth staff in delivering a youth provision within our 2 youth centres at Roslyn Street & The Bridge Youth Clubs within inner East Belfast.
These posts are for a term of one year with the possibility of extending the posts (dependent on funding).
The 3 posts consist of:
1 x 25 hour post
2 x 18.5 hour posts
The post holders must be flexible to alter working hours during school holidays and be able to work 2 weekends per month.
All applicants to apply in writing to the Youth Manager for an application pack. Closing date for all applications is 30 April at 4pm interviews will be held week starting 5 May 2008.
Main duties will also include
- Assessing the needs of local young people in the community.
- Programme planing in conjunction with volunteers and young people.
- Organising equipment / materials and preparing rooms.
- Administration in relation to programmes.
- Identification of suitable volunteers (and refer to Youth Manager).
- Organising a Summer programme for the above groups.
- Organising and implementing residentials as part of the ongoing programme.
Essentials
Experience
- A minimum of 2 years consecutive experience within the past 5 years, working paid or unpaid, in an inner city or disadvantaged area within the setting of a youth club.
- Youth club work with primary school aged children and young teenagers.
Knowledge
- Be conversant with the current responsibilities regarding child protection as laid out in The Children's Order.
- Be familiar with the aims and objectives of the youth service.
Skills The person (s) should have proven ability in the following:
- Admin.
- Organisation and planning.
- Programme planing, preparation and delivery.
- Good over all communications skills, both written and oral.
- Motivation skills.
- Effective time management.
- Working as part of a team.
- Drive & commitment.
- He / she will be able to work on their own initiative.
- Show a commitment to peace building.
- Committed to working with children and young people from the Woodstock / Ravenhill area.
- Must form part of The Bridge team and be sympathetic to the ethos of The Bridge.
Qualifications
- The applicant (s) must hold a recognised youth work qualification, or be committed to attaining this as soon as possible (OCN Level 2 or above required).
Desirable
It would be desirable that the candidates have
- A proven ability in a specific area eg computers, arts, sport, etc.
- Experience of single identity and / or cross community work.
- Have knowledge of the Lower Ravenhill / Woodstock and issues affecting young people in this area.
