The 'Reclaiming Playspace' project is a new, innovative mobile play service aiming to bring play back to the community. Using a small van staffed by Community Playworkers, the project will encourage more children and young people outdoors into their community settings to enjoy quality play experiences
Job Outline
- To assist the ‘Reclaiming Playspace’ Manager in the delivery of a mobile outdoor play project operating initially in the disadvantaged communities of North Belfast. Working with children, young people and the wider community ensuring that play sessions are carried out in a safe and stimulating environment.
- To provide play opportunities using a variety of resources that will be transported in a van by the mobile play team.
- To assist in consultation with children, young people, the local community and relevant organisations on the importance of play and the play project, helping to dictate the future direction of the play project.
- The job will require a commitment to working outdoors in the evening within a diverse range of community settings.
Qualifications & Experience
- At least one year’s experience of working in a play, youth, community or sport and recreation setting.
Skills and Abilities
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to consult and work with children, young people and the whole community.
Knowledge and Awareness
- Knowledge of various types of play provision.
- Knowledge of the importance of play.
Other
- Ability to travel throughout North Belfast.
- Commitment to the values of the mobile play project.
- Ability to lift/handle and transport play resources.
- Willing to work evenings.
- Possession of a full, clean UK driving licence.
