This is a new part-time post. The post-holder will recruit a team of volunteer first aid trainers by working with the Community First Aid manager, build up partnerships with local disability organisations and ensure that a sustainable programme of first aid training to people with disabilities is delivered. To co-ordinate the provision of first aid training for a range of individuals and groups with disabilities, their carers, families and professional staff working on their behalf.

To scope and prioritise local needs for first aid training for people with disabilities. To plan, initiate, and develop a programme of training for individuals and groups as set out above;

To build up links with groups and organisations that work with people with disabilities in the local area; With the support of Community First Aid managers to recruit and develop trainers to support the project;

To support trainers in adapting courses to meet the needs and abilities of participants;

With the support of the Area Volunteer co-ordinator to supervise and monitor volunteers working on the project and course participants wishing to become volunteers;

To undertake administrative duties to support the project and to maintain records of work; To monitor and evaluate progress and report on the same within a given framework;

To advocate and promote first aid training for people with disabilities both within the Society and to external agencies;

To uphold the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and to work within the Society’s Equal Opportunities Policy. Since the post is new, the duties may evolve over time, therefore the job description will be subject to periodic review.
