The Big Deal is a Northern Ireland youth sector initiative made possible with £4 million funding from the Big Lottery Fund.

The primary focus of the programme is increasing the participation of children and young people as decision-makers. £1 million pounds will be used to fund grants between £500 and £2,500 that help individual and small groups of children and young people aged 0-25 to run projects in their area that will help make a difference.

External Assessors - Small Grant Programme The purpose of this role is to provide assessment services for grant applications to The Big Deal small grants programme.

Essential Criteria includes:

  • At least two years experience of grant assessment processes, in particular with children and young people, gained in the last 5 years.
  • Experience of producing reports and information within specified time frames, gained in the last 2 years.
  • At least two years in a role that demands excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, gained in the last 5 years.

Project Mentors

The purpose of this role is to provide mentoring services to individuals and groups of young people under-25 years who have applied to or are in receipt of a grant from The Big Deal small grants programme or support from the strategic programme.

Essential Criteria includes:

  • At least three years experience of working in non formal settings with children and young people, particularly those at risk of being socially excluded, gained in the last 5 years.
  • Experience of producing reports and information within specified time frames, gained in the last 2 years.
  • At least three years experience in a role that demands excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build, sustain and influence relationships with children and young people with a wide range of interests, gained in the last 5 years.
